Breen Passes First Bill to Eliminate Unnecessary Layer of Government

On Friday afternoon, Representative Peter Breen (R-Lombard) passed his first bill in the Illinois House, HB 3747. The legislation would consolidate governance of the DuPage County Fair into one entity, eliminating the DuPage County Fair and Exposition Authority and transferring its duties to the DuPage County Fair Association. Currently, funds for the Fair Association are directed through the Fair and Exposition Authority, even though the only entity supported by the Authority is the Association. As the DuPage County Fair Association already operates the fair, this legislation allows funds to flow directly to it, without redirection through the superfluous Fair and Exposition Authority.

Breen stated, “The work of streamlining government is often slow and difficult, requiring elimination of unnecessary units of government one at a time. This bill will help reduce the size of DuPage County government and save taxpayers money. A key part of Governor Bruce Rauner’s Turnaround Agenda is consolidation, and I am glad to support that statewide effort by making DuPage County government more effective, efficient, and transparent.”

The bill unanimously passed the Counties and Townships Committee before being passed out of the House unanimously, 105-0. The measure now moves to the Senate.
